Nutri - Stahl TV Commercial

For this commercial I was cameraman. Got this chance thanks to my friends at Productores Render too. In the case of Ecuador, both Rainbow Health System and Nutri - Stahl Cooking System share a few advertising campaigns and/or TV commercials because they are represented by the same company over there.

Mini Marathon Ciudad de Quito TV Spots

With my friends at Productores Render I got the chance to do my first TV commercial on my own, at least a part of it. For two consecutive years I was involved with the Mini Marathon TV commercials. First year I only did one, cut-out animation technique was used for both characters that were already designed by the time I came in.

Take a look at the "third edition" of the Mini Marathon commercial (May 2008), the first 15 seconds were done by myself overnight. Funny thing, I thought that working overnight was already over once I was done with studying... I was wrong. In the animation industry you have to be ready for this sort of things.

Now here is the TV commercial I work on for the "fourth edition" (May 2009). I did a couple that were very similar. Here is one of them. First 11 seconds were animated by myself, backgrounds are also mine. That year I designed two new characters because we were asked to show the wide etnicity that Ecuador has. The rest of the commercial will show you a few illustrated backgrounds I did with photographic reference. Too bad the lip-sync was not accurate; it was requested when the commercial was already done.

Animation Reel (March 2008)

This was my first demo reel. All work that you see in here was done while I was a student and an intern in the "Ozmosis" TV show, which aired for a few years in the Ecuadorian TV station Ecuavisa International.

Student Work #2

I have liked toads since I was 8, used to look for them in my old house's backyard. Even today if I see one I will try to catch it. These characters were designed in one of my late drawing courses, which was a requisite to get the "Illustration" minor. First I used pencils, then a pen to get more defined strokes. I scanned the sheet of paper and cleaned it up in Photoshop. Color and shadows where added in Photoshop also.

Student Work

These are a few sketches I did while I was attending "Universidad San Francisco de Quito".

The "mustache robot" and the "biped reptile" where characters that made their way to 3D; the rest where done in my spare time. Some people said that the "kid in the corner" was me. It was not my intention but tuned out to be true, he looks like me!

Now, at the bottom you will see some color images, the first is inspired from a frog picture (Pete Oxford & Renee Bish, Ecuador: Tierra de Sapos - 2004;), the second is also inspired from a picture (Tomasz Tomaszewski, National Geographic Magazine - June 2005) and the last one was part of the "Human Figure Drawing" class.

Please feel free to leave any comments, I will appreciate them!
